Michaelis Boyd designed the principal bathroom at this year’s WOW!house at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.
MB were appointed ‘Design Partner’ by winning a competition House of Rohl held to find their Design Partner for 2024 which follows the success of previous collaborations with 2LG and Studio Mica. House of Rohl have curated a portfolio of luxury sanitaryware products which align to Michaelis Boyd’s international projects.
The concept for the design was based on a playful and whimsical journey through the bathroom. The feature bathtub is placed upon a raised platform, encircled by a custom-made wallpaper within an up-lit cave. The bathroom is designed for the occupier to navigate through each area where the spaces becomes intricate and increasingly dramatic and intimate. Playing on the macro-micro, an open entrance leads seamlessly into a small, yet punchy powder room. The inspiration for the design began by creating a focal point, a theatrical standalone piece, which was decided to be the most important element of any bathroom – the bath itself. Once the baths location was set to be raised, it inspired the planning of the remaining layout, sanitary-ware and overall flow.
Christina Gregoriou – Partner at Michaelis Boyd said ‘Our global portfolio of luxury residential and hospitals projects – particularly bathrooms and spa amenities, align beautifully to WOW!house’s audience and overall brand. It’s already been an exciting journey thus far during the design phase with a rare opportunity to design freely without a strict brief and to present a project which will perfectly reflect our brand and ethos’.
