Volker Haug is a decorative lighting practice based in Melbourne. A skilled team of designers and makers work to create lighting informed by a sense of discovery and experimentation. With a focus on pared back, immaculate designes filled with a sense of playfulness and indiviuality, the studio has established a tradition of producing elegant, finely detailed pieces.

ME ANd YOU

Designed in partnership with Flack Studio Me and You is a result of minor calamity, a fixed constraint, a creative simpatico, shared aesthetic sensibilities, and a long history of friendship. Through rapid-fire ideation, prototyping and iteration, the collection launched at 2024 Milan Design Week.

As the name suggests, Me and You speaks to the collaboration, but also to the inherent interplay of light and space – a relationship that the studios believe is perhaps the most important decision of the design process. The duet between lighting and its environments determines atmosphere, and softspokenly holds immerse power in form an experience.

Originally from Stutgart, Germany Volker Haug (pictured) moved to Australia int the early 2000s and ended up working with celebrated lighting designer Geoffrey Mance in Melbourne. In 2004, Haug departed to launch his own studio out of his garage, which has since grown to 20 employees. As the team has expanded, he has increasingly found that there’s a magic in the mix, assembling a diverse group of international makers with a wide variety of skill sets’

All of Haug’s eponymous studio’s pieces are born out of collaboration, with the whole team working together out of a converted 1940’s warehouse to come up with concepts, choose materials, and create custom pieces for clients.
